Some PDFs have a header or footer that’s actually an image (like a logo) rather than real text, so it gets skipped by things like Word conversion. This checks the page you’re currently viewing — not the whole document — for real underlying text there, and if it looks empty, tries OCR on just that region. A "nothing found" result on a cover page is often correct (cover pages frequently have no running header/footer at all); try a different page if you’re expecting one elsewhere.

It’s the one exception. Checking "Password-protect this PDF" uploads just the finished result to our server for that single step, then deletes it immediately afterward — everything else (adding text, drawings, shapes, page edits) still happens entirely in your browser, the same as always. Leave the checkbox off and nothing is ever uploaded.

No — this adds new text, drawings, and highlights on top of the page, the same way a paper printout with a pen would work. PDF doesn’t store editable paragraphs the way Word does, so changing existing text isn’t possible in any browser-based tool. If you need to change existing text, Word/PDF conversion followed by editing in Word is the better path.

Undo steps back through your most recent changes one at a time — annotations, and page actions like Add Page, Delete Page, Rotate, and Move — like Ctrl+Z (and Redo brings each one back with Ctrl+Y). Clear page removes everything you’ve added to the page you’re currently viewing, but leaves other pages untouched, and isn’t part of undo history.

Not yet — Undo only reaches the most recent one. For now, Clear page and starting over on that page is the way to remove something further back.

Yes — click Select Text, then click-drag over text the same way you would in any PDF viewer, and copy it normally. This only works for text the PDF already has built in (not scanned pages), and only for that original text — text you add with Add Text isn’t selectable inside this editor’s preview, since it’s drawn as an image there. It does become real, selectable text once you download the PDF and open it in an actual PDF viewer.

Not in this tool — the library it runs on doesn’t actually support writing encrypted PDFs, even though it can seem to accept a password. Rather than offer something that looks protected but isn’t, this feature isn’t included. Real password protection would need to happen on our server; not available yet.

Yes — annotations follow their page through deleting, adding, and reordering pages, in either order you do them.

The page itself isn’t spun around live in the editor, but a small orange badge appears right on the page showing the current rotation (like "Rotated 90°"), so you always know its state without guessing. The actual rotation takes effect once you download the PDF. Click it four times to cycle all the way back to 0° and the badge disappears.

It gets cut off at the page edge, the same way it would if it ran past the right edge — text doesn’t automatically continue onto a new page. Leave enough room below where you click, or keep the block shorter.

Yes — switch to the Move / Resize tool, then click it to select it (you’ll see a dashed outline and a small handle at the top-right corner), then drag the shape itself to move it, or drag that corner handle to resize it. Press Delete or Backspace to remove the selected one. This is a separate tool on purpose — it keeps Draw and Highlight free to work directly on top of an existing shape or image without accidentally dragging it instead.

Yes, but each page renders in your browser as you view it, so very long PDFs will feel slower to page through than short ones.
